Composite filling or tooth coloured filling is to make your filling look more natural and to withstand the constant pressure of chewing. They provide good durability and resistance to fracture to your fillings.

How is composite filling different from amalgam filling? Dental amalgam is a blend of several metals, including mercury and silver while the material used for composite fillings is also a mixture of polymers that can adhere to the tooth surface and are hardened with a blue light. Amalgam fillings were in use for a long time while composite fillings are a recent phenomenon due to advancement in dentistry and its more preferred because its tooth coloured.

Why do a lot of people go for cosmetic filling these days?
Since, cavities can be helped with teeth coloured filling, its preferred more because the filling being in the same colour as the teeth give a better cosmetic appeal than amalgam or gold filling.
